The Cornerstone Gold scored seven runs in the top of the first inning Friday and was held to one run over the next six innings as Utica-Beaver Crossing ended the young bankers season with an 11-8 victory. York sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning and three got base hits and a combination of errors, walks, and hit batsmen allowed York to score at will.
Then the well went dry; and UBC took advantage by chippng away at the lead and finally tying the score at 8-8 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Work horse Will Eckhart went five innings before giving way to Cody Rhodes in the sixth inning.
Jordan Walz and CJ Huber led the York attack with two hits apiece and Austin Taylor added an RBI double in the third inning.
With the loss, the Gold's season was put on the shelf until 2011.
